BIOMAX INFORMATICS AG releases BioXM version 4.3, adding transparent support for physical quantities with units

Biomax Informatics today announced the release of a new version of the BioXM Knowledge Management Environment, its flagship enterprise platform for semantic data integration for the life sciences. The new BioXM version 4.3 transparently handles numerical values with associated units. Importing, exporting, reporting, searching and filtering of physical quantities considers the units specified by the user and, automatically applying all implicit conversions required, always provides the correct results. The BioXM system supports virtually all SI units, derived SI units, the corresponding SI prefixes as well as non-SI units. Especially for data sets using mixed units, the new BioXM version will significantly improve efficiency and accuracy.

Support for physical quantities and additional new features and enhancements, e.g., of the BioXM graph viewer and the web services API of BioXM, are immediately available; existing customers are already being upgraded.

Biomax Informatics and BioM BioTech Cluster Development host a symposium on Knowledge Management in Personalized Medicine — in Martinsried (Munich), Germany.

Personalized medicine has developed to one of the main topics in healthcare in recent years. The idea of Personalized Medicine is tailoring all medical decisions and practices to the individual patient. Integrating the huge amounts of data that are produced due to the tremendous biotechnological development challenges current information technology but is a pre-requirement to progress in treating the particular patient and his/her specific disease more individually and thus more successfully. Knowledge management has gained increasing importance in leveraging - if not even enabling - the integrated view on various healthcare aspects when trying to conceive an overall picture of the individual patient and his individual disease.
This symposium is dedicated to the concepts and challenges of knowledge management as well as to the obvious need for data structuring and integration in personalized medicine. It draws an arch from state of the art knowledge management over the application of knowledge management methods in exemplary projects up to practical know-how sessions. The talks are mainly addressed to medical researchers and bioinformatics scientists related to systems medicine.
Biomax is proud to offer this symposium free of charge to every interested researcher.
For more information and for registration visit the Symposium pages on the Biomax website.

Biomax Informatics today announced the expansion of its long-term licensing
and services agreement with Royal DSM to include solutions for synthetic biology
using Biomax's BioXM™
Knowledge Management Environment. The BioXM system is a unique generic
software platform for dynamic modeling, visualization and analysis of biological and
biomedical networks. By enabling an agile process to develop new life science
applications through easy configuration and customization, the BioXM system allows
new solutions to be deployed quickly to large user communities. Leveraging the
capabilities of the BioXM system in synthetic biology allows a purpose-oriented
engineering approach.

"By now we have used the new BioXM system
in several different areas," said Dr. Marco de Groot, Scientist Bioinformatics
at DSM. "The system is outstanding in terms of flexibility and its ability to
be tuned to our needs. Its solution-building approach is unprecedented: rolling-out

Biomax Informatics updates its premier enterprise platform, the
BioXM™ Knowledge Management Environment. The new BioXM version 3.3 offers
significantly enhanced visualization capabilities that simplify the configuration
and use of context-dependent, one-click visualization scenarios.
Based on
semantic search capabilities, BioXM graphs can be superimposed on-the-fly for
displayed scientific entities with both context-dependent information and with
globally available information. This allows, for example, the generation of a
network of disease-related effects under certain environmental conditions and
enrichment of graphical presentation with both condition-dependent, experimentally
obtained evidence and literature-derived knowledge.
Information is dynamically
presented for interpretation in the same graph. This information graphic can be
stored and is updated automatically when new experimental evidence becomes
available. Colorful new backdrops provide additional context information, for
example, regarding biological compartments.
Among numerous other newly
introduced or enhanced features, BioXM version 3.3 is compatible with a variety of
office document formats and has been expanded to improve full-text search within
imported files. Full support is now available for Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop Edition, as
well as the standard operating systems Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X.

Biomax Informatics AG releases BioXM version 3.1, a minor update of the BioXM
Knowledge Management Environment.

Biomax Informatics AG releases BioXM version 3.1, a minor update of the
BioXM Knowledge Management Environment. The new version 3.1 adds a number of
features improving functionality and ease of use for both end users and
administrators:
• Simplified view configuration – BioXM now
allows end users to easily customize administrator configured table views. The user
can show or hide table view columns without affecting other users view
configurations and keep his preferences for future user sessions.
•
Configurable naming of graph objects – Instead of having to always
use the primary object name, administrators can now configure a custom object-type
specific caption for presentation in the graph viewer.
• Simplified
graphical browsing and streamlined graphical network building – A
number of workflow changes allow for faster network creation and modification as
well as for easier graphical network browsing.

BIOMAX INFORMATICS AG releases the new BioXM version 3.0, a major upgrade of its
flagship enterprise platform for semantic data integration and knowledge
management.

Biomax Informatics today announced the new release of a major upgrade of
its flagship product BioXM Knowledge Management Environment. The BioXM system
integrates information from different data sources to dynamically build semantic
networks representing up-to-date knowledge, which can then be mined and analyzed.
BioXM version 3.0 now introduces an all-new set of tools specifically developed for
scientific interpretation of semantic networks such as biological pathways or
biomedical relationship graphs. The BioXM system allows complex scientific questions
to be answered dynamically and graphically with unprecedented speed and flexibility.
Using a unique, easy-to-use approach of query-based “information layers”, different
user-configurable scientific scenarios can be explored with a single click. A newly
introduced high-performance analysis API seamlessly integrates favorite tools such
as often-used R and BioConductor scripts or other third-party applications.

Sophic Systems Alliance receives award from National Cancer Institute to complete
the Cancer Gene Index Project

Today, Sophic announced the launch of a 12-month, $1.3M project funded by
the National Cancer Institute (NCI), to complete the first comprehensive index of
6,610 cancer-related genes found in Medline abstracts, with manually annotated
gene-disease and gene-compound relationships. Over the past four years, Sophic has
teamed with NCI and Biomax Informatics AG in Munich, Germany, to build this highly
curated, standardized, computable cancer knowledge base. When complete, the cancer
community will have access to a comprehensive compendium of cancer information. The
4,658 cancer genes annotated in previous phases of this project are already
publically available at the NCI website at <a
